New Barbie dolls with disabilities are hitting the shelves across the country. Children are finally able to see a variety of Barbies with hearing aids or one with prosthetic legs, as well as a Ken doll with vitiligo- which is a condition that causes loss of skin pigmentation. Having accurately related Barbies that are similar to real-life people. Society tends to neglect and be seen as different. Children need to see themselves as a product. To encourage children and kids to play with dolls that don’t resemble them to help them understand everyone is involved. There is also Barbie’s prosthetic leg and so many other different Barbies. The importance of representation, it introduces more dolls that also reflect the diversity of children around the world. Showing the world that this huge icon of a Barbie can now be demonstrated to different types of people attracting children to the variety of Barbies. The hope for these new dolls can remove the stigma surrounding disabilities and show the children there nothing is wrong if someone may have a disability.
