MOVIE REVIEW : Drive

Last week I sat down and watched Drive for the first time, I had attempted a few times before but had always gotten distracted during. Thank the heavens I watched it though, it is one of the best movies I have ever seen and I have seen a lot of movies. Drive is an action-packed thriller that keeps you captivated until the end. If you enjoy movies such as Good Time, Fight Club, and Equilibrium you will definitely find this movie to be right up your alley.

Drive centers around our protagonist only ever introduced as “Driver”. Driver is a skilled Hollywood stuntman who moonlights as a getaway driver for criminals. He lives in an apartment complex shared by his love interest Irene and her young son Benecio. Irene’s husband gets out of jail and is brutally beaten by local gangsters to whom he owes money. He enlists Driver to help him in a million-dollar heist, Driver accepts only because Irene and Benecio’s lives are on the line. The job goes terribly wrong and Driver has to take several risks to save Irene and her son.

Yet again, another amazing performance from Ryan Gosling. Driver is portrayed as a very stoic and mysterious character, so Ryan having minimal lines but telling such a large story truly shows just how phenomenal of an actor he is. Ron Perlman playing as Nino the “Big Boss” was another great casting choice, he can play such an unstable and terrifying character so well. Overall, this film is worth a watch for pretty much anyone who enjoys a good movie. You can watch this film on Tubi for free if you are interested.
