Then, exactly 6 days later, he released “Lights Up”, his first song released since his debut solo album “Harry Styles” in 2017. Many fans made the connection from “Lights Up” to the “do” tweet. The main line in his song and now album campaign is “Do You Know Who You Are”. “do” being the first line of that now-infamous sentence. Since then, Styles has overwhelmed fans with a sudden flurry of content, interviews, new tour dates, songs, and a new album. Fine Line.
Fine Line is Styles’ sophomore album following his debut in 2017. 3 tracks from the album had been prematurely released, being the singles of the album.
Along the lines of “Lights Up”, you can see pieces of Styles’ journey to self-acceptance through words and the emotions detected in his singing. He “steps into the light” ( a line which is heavily repeated throughout the song) and explains how he is “never going back now”. This most likely hints at a dark time or feeling Harry has experienced in his past, and more importantly how he got through that. You can’t help but feel a heavy gloom mixed with a glimmer of hope for a new era in between the cryptic lyrics.
His next released single, “Watermelon Sugar” has a sweet and summery feel. The song feels like a summer anthem, a warm listener during its release in the chilly autumn month of November. His previous songs have been described as “sometimes great, sometimes foggy.” But this bop is anything but foggy. Berries, Summer Evening’ and June are heavily repeated lyrics, with trumpets in the background giving it a jazzy feel that can be described as anything other than outdated.
These are only 2 among 13 tracks in Harry Styles’ “Fine Line” Album. Available everywhere December 13 at midnight!
