Portugal was one of the favorites to go deep in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, but their run came to a shocking end in the quarterfinals against Morocco. The match was a tight one, with both teams creating several scoring chances. But it was Morocco who ultimately broke the deadlock, scoring the only goal of the game in the first half. Portugal tried to mount a comeback, but Morocco’s defense proved to be too strong, and they held on to win the match 1-0. The loss came as a huge disappointment for Portugal, who had high hopes for the tournament. Despite boasting a talented squad that included world-class players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Bernardo Silva, they were unable to find a way past Morocco’s defense. In the end, it was Morocco who advanced to the semifinals, where they will face France for a spot in the finals. For Portugal, it’s a bitter end to what was a promising run, and they will now have to regroup and look ahead to the next World Cup in four years’ time.
