Black History month is to dedicate and honor African Americans in the U.S. A way to bring attention to the culture and the history of the African American community showing their struggles and their successes. Also to show that African Americans deserve to have equal rights just like the rest of the Americans. To have the ability to feel safe as an African American, be able to vote, go to integrated schools, etc. Black History month starts on February 1 and ends on March 1 every year. The reason it’s during February is that the second week of February was to commemorate the births of Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln since both of them honored and changed the world for African Americans. Throughout history, there were and still today peaceful protests and ways to donate your time for the justice of African Americans on Black history month such as painting or drawing the civil rights posters of freedom. Learning more about African American history like the Black Lives Matter movement, slavery, segregation to see what African Americans experienced as African Americans. Go to school and give time to decorate the school and have fun activities to do with people/classmates and students to build new relationships and learn about others who are African American. There are so many things to do and learn about, this month is about history.
