Interviewing a Teacher

By: SIRA GONZALEZ

Staff Writer

What made you decide to become a teacher?

Mrs. Perez was working the news- holidays, weekends, late nights. She was pregnant at the time and realized it would be a hard job to keep as a mother. So she was looking for a new job, she started substituting, the second week the teacher quit and she was asked to sub for the rest of the year. She loved it and that’s how she became a teacher.

How long  have you been teaching?

23 years

Any other schools, grade levels, or subjects they have taught?

Middle school – 3 years

HS – 20 years

All grade levels 9-12/Journalism/Eld/Drama

What is it they love about the subject they teach?

English teaches people empathy-reading about the lives of others makes us more understanding of others. Also, writing is so important: for getting a job, for expressing  our opinions, etc. She loves that she gets to know her students so well through writing.

What do they think of distance teaching?

Hates It!!!! She misses seeing students; being able to tell if they are having a hard time (in class or life)… being able to joke with them.

Do they have any special hobbies?

She’s a runner (marathons) and a reader

What do they do after work to relax?

Grade papers

Would you like for us to know anything else?

She is proud of me and is lucky to be my homeroom teacher
