EDHS’ Competition Cheer Wins Coveted CIF Title a Third Time

By Noeli Carranza Juarez

On Jan. 17 at Buchanan High School in Clovis, the El Diamante High School competition cheer team (D3) competed in the CIF championship and earned first place out of three other teams for the third time in school history.

El Diamante varsity cheerleader Sierra Ayon states that although winning first place feels like a huge accomplishment, the moment she will never forget about this experience is after “hitting all the elites’ stunts knowing they now secured the first place title” in the CIF central section.

Competition cheerleaders and coaches prepared for this day for four months, practicing Monday-Thursday for three hours each time. The cheerleaders share that the journey wasn’t all smooth, with disagreements, stunts not hitting, and a few injuries on the team, but they stayed motivated by remembering how badly they wanted to get the CIF champion title back.

Sierra added that even though [it was] “stressful, intimidating, and exciting”, they felt “happy, relieved, and peaceful”.

The El Diamante Competition will now move on to Nationals.
